A JOURNEY INTO THE "RIO DE LA PLATA"

Uruguayan singer Maia Steinberg is dedicated to exploring and sharing the rich musical traditions of the Río de la Plata and Latin America. Based in the Netherlands, her work bridges traditional and contemporary repertoire, bringing together the sounds, poetry, and stories of Argentina, Uruguay, and other Latin American countries such as Mexico, Chile, and Cuba.

Her repertoire spans tango, canción latinoamericana, chacarera, zamba, and other Latin American folk traditions, combining traditional songs with original compositions.

Maia collaborates with musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds, creating performances that celebrate dialogue between traditions and take place in a wide variety of settings, from concert halls and festivals to cultural spaces and unconventional venues.

Among her previous collaborations is Dos Esquinas, alongside guitarist Renzo Navone and bandoneon player Oscar Quiñones, a project dedicated to the tango repertoire of the Río de la Plata. She has also performed with the French ensemble Los Franchaleros, focusing on Argentine folk music.

Her current projects include Pausa Poética, a collaboration with guitarist Lucas Zampaglione that explores the musical traditions of Argentina, Uruguay, and Mexico through an intimate repertoire of folk songs, mainly performing in healthcare centers throughout the Netherlands. She recently started a new collaboration with Italian guitarist Stefano Petucco in a duo dedicated to the tango songbook, presenting both classic and contemporary repertoire which she also composes.

Whether performing in concert halls, cultural venues, festivals, or intimate spaces, Maia invites audiences on a musical journey through the landscapes, rhythms, and emotions of Latin America. Through storytelling and interaction with the audience, she shares the history, cultural context, and poetry behind each song, creating concerts that are both engaging and deeply personal.
